LOUISVILLE – Three upcoming Prestonsburg High School senior soccer standouts at will join other team member of Eastern Elite 01 when the squad plays in the regional championships in Michigan beginning June 21.
Beth Burchett, Makayla Ousley and Grace Trusty helped lead the Elite 01 team to a 4-3 victory over defending champion Kentucky Fire, 4-3, in a match played Sunday morning. Burchett scored the winning goal with under one minute to play.
The Lady Blackcat trio is part of history as Eastern Elite 01 became the first team ever from eastern Kentucky to win the Kentucky State Cup.
Lawrence County junior standouts on the team include Hayleah Fletcher, Sarah Lycans and Ally Moore.
The prestigious tournament is sanctioned by the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series.
In addition to soccer players from P’burg and Lawrence County, other schools included players from Ashland, Russell, Grayson, Barboursville and Huntington, W.Va.
Many of the participating players have already committed to playing on the college level.
