HS SOCCER: Burchetts, Lycans named to all-state teams

Prestonsburg’s Anna Burchett leads several area high school soccer players named to the Kentucky High School Coaches Association all-state soccer teams.

Burchett, who helped lead the Lady Blackcats to the Elite 8 of the girls’ state tournament, was named a first-team member. Prestonsburg finished 21-3-0.

She scored 88 goals and had 18 assists, averaging 3.7 goals per match.

Lawrence County’s Sarah Lycans was a second-team choice along with her teammate and goalkeeper Ally Moore. Lycans helped the Lady Dawgs to a 14-6 mark. She scored 50 goals and added eight assists, scoring 2.6 goals per match.

Moore finished with 187 saves in 20 matches and allowed just 33 goals. She averaged nearly 10 saves per outing.

The duo were joined on the squad by Prestonsburg’s Elizabeth Burchett, who totaled 38 goals, just shy of two per match, and 13 assists.

Other girls named to the honorable mention list included Prestonsburg’s Makayla Ousley, Paintsville’s Hope Auxier and Johnson Central’s Lauren Johnson.

Ousley scored 35 goals and finished with 43 assists in 24 matches. Auxier finished the season with 187 saves in 16 matches and allowed only 24 goals. She finished just under 12 saves per match. Johnson had 27 goals and six assists for the Lady Eagles.

Two members of the Prestonsburg Blackcats were honorable mention choices as well.

Matt Burchett and Isaiah Collins were picked. Burchett finished with 25 goals and 29 assists while Collins totaled 29 goals and 15 assists in 24 matches.

The Blackcats finished the season at 19-3-2, falling in the Elite 8 of the state tournament.
