Paintsville fell behind in the opening half on the road at Hazard and the Bulldogs went on to down the Tigers, 23-14, in a game played at Daniel Field on Friday night.
The Tigers, now 3-2, erased an early 3-0 deficit on Harris Phelps’ 26-yard run from scrimmage on the first play of the second period to make it 7-3.
Hazard regained the lead on Reece Fletcher’s 36-yard pass reception from quarterback Garrett Miller at 10-7. Mason Collins’ 68-yard INT pushed the Dogs up 17-7 at the break.
Paintsville climbed back to within 17-14 on John Walker Phelps’ late touchdown run of 61 yards in the third period.
Fletcher’s second TD run, this time from 30 yards away midway through the final period, put the game out of reach.
Paintsville played without starting quarterback Jake Hyden and lost defensive standout Jaylyn Allen prior to halftime.
The Tigers will face Union, Va. (5-0) on the road Oct. 4. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
