Johnson Central used a big third quarter to pull away and beat South Charleston (W.Va.), 59-29, in a game played at Oakes Field on Friday night.
Quarterback Ryley Preece passed for two touchdowns, ran for two others and returned an interception 44 yards for another as the Golden Eagles moved to 3-0.
Preece tossed TD passes to Seth Dalton for 41 yards and a 36-yard strike to Devin Johnson. Johnson also rushed for 80 yards and a score on six carries. Preece finished with 102 yards on the ground.
Hunter McCloud led the defensive surge which shut the Black Eagles down in the second half. He had 13 tackles and recovered a fumble. Dillon Preston had a fumble recovery. Grant Rice picked off a pass.
Johnson Central will play its home opener against Cincinnati-Sycamore on Sept. 20. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Lawrence County pound itself behind the eight ball early on as Russell built a 27-point, halftime advantage and went on to down the Bulldogs, 41-12, in a game played at Luke Varney Jr. Memorial Field on Friday night.
Quarterback Baden Gilliespie scored on a 25-yard touchdown run in the third period and running back Trevor Young added a four-yard rushing touchdown in the games final two minutes.
Young finished with 67 yards on 14 carries while Blue Fletcher had six rushes for 66 yards. Gillespie had 58 yards on 16 attempts.
The Bulldogs, now 2-2, are idle this coming weekend. Lawrence County will host Pikeville (4-0) on Sept. 27 at the Dawg House.

Hazard rolled up 430 yards in total offense and the Bulldogs cruised past Floyd Central, 34-8, in a game played at Jaguars Stadium on Friday night.
Jaguar running back Dalton Boyd carried 14 times for 91 yards and a touchdown while quarterback Brant Potter added 59 yards on the ground on 10 rushes. Jordan Akers added a two-point conversion run.
Brendan Evans picked off two passes in the loss.
Quarterback Garrett Miller passed for 297 yards and two scoring passes while running back Trajon Campbell had 101 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. Miller also rushed for a score.
Andrew Ford hauled in eight catches for 135 yards and a touchdown. Reece Fletcher added a TD reception.
The Jaguars dropped to 1-3 and will host Prestonsburg (1-3) on Sept. 20. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
