HS FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Martin County 2-0 after win at The Rock

Martin County scored its second straight win to open the 2019 football season as the Cardinals knocked off Magoffin County, 22-6, at The Rock on Friday night.

Running back Logan Proctor finished with 119 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 17 carries. Kolby Sparks added 159 yards and one score on 17 rushes.

Nick Harless had three sacks and forced six pass rushes.

Martin County faces its toughest test this season when they travel to Coal Miner’s Memorial Stadium to face the Harlan County Black Bears on Sept. 6. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Morgan County…30

Betsy  Layne running back Austin Tackett carried 16 times for 247 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Bobcats to a 46-30 win over Morgan County in a game played at Bobcat Stadium this past Friday night.

Quarterback Chase Mims completed 11 of 18 passes for 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Bobcats moved to 1-1. Nicholas Howell hauled in five passes for 126 yards and both scores. He also rushed for a touchdown along with Mims.

Betsy Layne will travel to the Reservation on Sept. 6 to face East Ridge (0-1). Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Also this past week, Sissonville defeated Chapmanville, 24-8, in the season opener for both West Virginia teams.
