HS FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Golden Eagles down Capital

Johnson Central quarterback Ryley Preece passed for a pair of touchdowns and rushed for two others as the Golden Eagles went on the road and beat West Virginia power Capital at Laidley Field on Friday night.

Preece tossed a 76-yard scoring strike to Seth Dalton and hit Keygan Pelfrey with a 15-yard toss as Johnson Central moved to 2-0. Preece rushed nine times for 34 yards. He was three of four passing for 112 yards.

Running back Devin Johnson led the ground attack with 90 yards on 14 rushing attempts while Dillon Preston finished with 63 yards on 10 rushes.

The Golden Eagles will play at South Charleston, W.Va. (1-0) on Sept. 13. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Letcher Central running back Hunter Campbell carried 15 times for 143 yards to two touchdowns to help the Cougars earn a thrilling 20-19 win over Bourbon County in the Dan Cummins Bourbon Bowl matched played Saturday night in Paris.

Campbell added a two-point conversion run which turned out to be the difference in the football game as the Cougars moved to 1-1.

Quarterback Carson Adams tossed a touchdown pass to Zach Hensley, who had two catches for 61 yards. Adams was four of five for 88 yards.

Hayden Brashear added 59 yards on 11 rushes as Central finished with 232 yards rushing as a team.

Jayson Buttrey totaled 11 tackles, including two for a loss.

Letcher Central will travel to Estill County (1-0) on Sept. 6 to tackle the Engineers in the Robby Wiseman Memorial Classic. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
