HS FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Campbell runs wild in Cougar win; Jags roll

Letcher Central running back Hunter Campbell rushed 17 times for 314 yards and three touchdowns to help the Cougars rally past Estill County, 40-36, in a game played Friday night.

Running back Hayden Brashear added 134 yards and two scores on 15 carries as the Cougars improved to 2-1.

The Cougars  finished with 502 yards rushing.

Letcher Central will host Union (Va.) on Sept. 13. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Floyd Central returned home after back-to-back road losses and jumped ahead quickly and cruised past Knott Central, 43-7, in a game played Friday night at Jaguars Stadium.

Running backs Dalton Boyd, Brendan Evans, Blake Adams, Gavin Martin and Jordan Akers, along with quarterback Brant Potter all rushed for a touchdown. Boyd finished with 76 yards on 13 rushes while Evans followed with 71 yards on five carries and Potter’s only carry was a 67-yard TD run.

Max Martin picked off a pass while John Johnson and Hayden Hall each had a fumble recovery.

The Jaguars (1-2) will host Hazard (1-1) on Sept. 13. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Betsy Layne scored its second straight win as the Bobcats knocked off East Ridge, 42-26, in a game played at the Reservation on Friday night.

Bobcat quarterback Chase Mims passed for 147 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 66 and three other scores as Betsy Layne moved to 2-1.

Running back Chase Hamilton had a big night with 183 yards rushing on 25 attempts and one touchdown. He hauled in eight passes for 133 yards and two scores.

Running back Austin Tackett added 100 yards and one touchdown on 15 rushes.

The Bobcats will host Magoffin County (1-2) and the Warriors, now 0-2, travel to Pineville (3-0) on Sept. 13. Both games are set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m.

Magoffin County fell behind early to Breathitt County as the Hornets fell at home, 55-6, in a game played Friday night.

Running back Jaylon McDuffus rushed five times for 85 yards and Caleb Howard  carried eight times for 30 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Mason Lovely had 19 tackles, including nine solo.

Magoffin County, now 1-2, will play at Betsy Layne (2-1) on Sept. 13. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Prestonsburg…..14

Hazard took charge against Prestonsburg early on and the Bulldogs went on to beat the Blackcats, 47-14, in a game played at Josh Francis Memorial Field on Friday night.

Quarterback Garrett Miller completed 9 of 10 passes for 214 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Elijah Gayheart rushed six times for 52 yards and one score.

Prestonsburg quarterback Brayden Slone rushed for both Blackcat scores in the loss.

The Blackcats, now 0-3, will host Powell County (0-3) on Sept. 13. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
