HS FOOTBALL: Pirates battle Ohio power Alter to the finish

Belfry knew going into its match with Ohio powerhouse Archbishop Alter, it would be a big mountain to climb.

The Pirates, who lost running back Isaac Dixon early in the game to an injury, battled right up to the end before falling to the Knights, 14-0, at Fairmont Stadium just outside Dayton, Ohio on Friday night.

Belfry was held to its lowest offensive output this season and in a long time as the Pirates managed 93 yards on the ground and 23 through the air in falling to 2-1.

Running back Peyton Hensley carried 20 times for 77 yards to lead the way.

Alter, now 3-0, was held to 57 yards rushing while passing for 137 and two touchdowns.

Quarterback Kale Steneman tossed a 20-yard scoring strike to Patrick Connor with 6 minutes, 44 seconds left in the third period to snap the tie. He later hit Branden McDonald with a 48-yard touchdown pass with just two minutes left to play.
