Shelby Valley quarterback Dalton Meade ran for 362 yards on 27 carries and scored four touchdowns, including the go-ahead points in the fourth quarter as the Wildcats pulled away late to knock off Letcher County Central, 44-22, in the season opener played at Teco Field on Friday night.
Meade had touchdown runs of 52, 4, 26 and 5 yards. He also tossed a 22-yard scoring strike to Lincoln Billiter in the game’s final 70 seconds of play. He also rushed for three, two-point conversions.
Jayden Newsome added a 44-yard touchdown run in the opening period.
Central’s Alex Blair scored on a 48-yard run while Joseph Fisher added a one-yard rushing touchdown and Hayden Brashear scored on a two-yard run.
The Wildcats will face Pike County Central (1-0) in the 35th annual Pike County Bowl at Pikeville and the Cougars play at Bourbon County, both games are Aug. 31.
