Phelps ran out to a 19-point, halftime lead and the Hornets held on in the second half to beat Harlan, 27-18, in a game play on Friday night.
Running back Seth Mayhorn scored on a three-yard run, Dominick Francis added a three-yard run and quarterback Riley Dotson’s one-yard run pushed the Hornets up 21-2 at the break.
Francis capped the Phelps scoring with a four-yard run in the third period. Francis finished with 140 on 17 rushes.
Mayhorn had 89 yards on 14 attempt.
The Hornets, now 2-0, will travel to The Rock to face Martin County (2-1) on Sept. 13. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
