HS FOOTBALL: Hawks hang on late, slip past Jaguars

Pike County Central’s football team is one play away from being undefeated.

The Hawks, now 4-1, won for the third straight time out, beating Floyd Central, 19-12, in a district matchup played at Jaguars Stadium on Friday night.

Quarterback Tyler Hunt rushed for a pair of touchdowns, both coming on runs of 10 and 14 yards in the second half.

Floyd Central quarterback Brant Potter tossed a 67-yard touchdown pass in the opening half to keep the Jaguars within a single point at the break, 7-6. He ran 38 yards for a touchdown in the fourth period to pull his team within seven.

Running back Matt Anderson added a one-yard, first period touchdown for the Hawks.

Both teams will return to action on Oct. 4. The Hawks journey to Tug Valley, W.Va. (3-2) and the Jaguars host Belfry (3-2). Both games are set for 7:30 p.m.
