Mingo Central receiver Drew Hatfield has been blessed with outstanding teammates and quarterbacks who get him the football.
Quarterback Daylin Goad passed for 582 yards and seven touchdowns, including a pair of those to Hatfield who became West Virginia high school’s all-time career reception and yards leader in the Miners’ come-from-behind 55-20 win over Winfield on Friday night in Putnam County.
Goad tossed TD passes of 98, 95, 77, 46, 21, 12 and 10 yards as Mingo Central moved to 8-2 and landed a post-season playoff berth as the 10th-ranked team in Class AA.
Hatfield had eight catches for 197 yards. He now has 334 receptions and 5,093 yards, moving him past Nitro’s Chris Fulmer who finished with 329 catches and 5,078 yards.
Receiver Isa Scales had a big night as well with 224 receiving and three touchdowns, all coming in the second quarter.
Mingo Central will travel this coming Friday night to open up post-season playoff action against Shady Spring (9-1). Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
