HS FOOTBALL: Golden Eagles dominate 6A Simon Kenton

Johnson Central head football coach Jim Matney said his team’s matchup with Class 6A power Simon Kenton was a good measuring stick.

What was expected to be the biggest challenge this season for the Golden Eagles was anything but at Eagle Field on Friday night.

Johnson Central had three running backs rush for over 100 yards each as the Golden Eagles took apart the Pioneers, 49-11.

The Golden Eagles, now 5-0, finished with 504 yards in total offense and scored on seven of their eight possessions.

Running back Devin Johnson had 155 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. Bryce Tackett followed with 123 yards and a score a pair of touchdowns while quarterback Ryley Preece added102 yards on 21 carries and a rushing touchdown. He also passed for another.

Johnson Central will host Clay County (3-2) on Oct. 4. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
