HS FOOTBALL: Clusky resigns as Tug Valley head coach

NAUGATUCK – Tug Valley football coach Tony Clusky has resigned his position.

Clusky, who coached the past 18 years in Mingo County, had the Panthers among the state’s elite Class A programs from 2012-18, reaching the post-season playoffs five times while earning the school its first-ever home football game at Bob Brewer Stadium.

It was his second stint with Tug Valley, having taken over the program in 2006 that was winless the previous season. He guided them to an 8-2 record and playoff appearance, the first of what turned out to be six overall.

He began his coaching career as an assistant under former Matewan head coach Danny “Yogi” Kinder during the Tigers run of state championship games appearances from the late 1980s to early 90s.

His first head coaching job came at Williamson High School in 1995. He took the Wolfpack to five post-season playoff games from 1998-2002.

The search will begin soon for the 14th coach in school history.
