HS BASKETBALL: Valley, PCC, SC post wins

ROBINSON CREEK – The second and fourth quarters helped Shelby Valley pull away and beat Belfry, 52-36, in a game played at the Shelby Valley Sports Center Jan. 8.

Kylie Hall fired in 15 points and Alyssa Elswick added 13 as the Lady Kats improved to 9-9. Alyssa  Newsome chipped nine.

McKenzie Maynard paced the Lady Pirates (6-9) with a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds.

BUCKLEYS CREEK – Pike Central built a commanding halftime lead against Phelps and rolled to a 55-34 victory in a game played at the Hawks Nest Jan. 8.

Cassidy Mullins poured in a game-high 28 points as Central improved to 12-6. Kelsi Brinager followed with 10 and Bailey Birchfield added eight.

Danielle Prater tossed in 13 to lead the Lady Hornets, who dropped to 6-7. Chloe Smith tallied 10.

PAINTSVILLE – Sheldon Clark pulled away from Paintsville down the stretch to score a 61-49 victory in a game played Jan. 8.

The Lady Cardinals, now 8-8, placed all five starters in double-figure scoring as Paige Maynard, Kristen Isaac and Madison Thompson led the way with 13 points apiece. McKenzie Preston followed with 12 and Lakyn Porter added 10.

Paintsville’s Elizabeth Williams was the game’s top scorer with 17 points while Clara Blair finished with 15. Anna Keeton scored 10 as the Lady Tigers fell to 12-3.

PAINTSVILLE – Paintsville used a balanced scoring attack to slip past Lawrence County, 55-50, in a game played Jan. 7.

Elizabeth Williams poured in a game-high 27 points and Katelyn Newsome added 10 as the Lady Tigers improved to 12-2. Anna Keeton and Aleiah Newsome added nine each in the win.

Kensley Feltner paced the Lady Dawgs, now 11-4, with 15 points while Alexis Ratliff and Kelly Davis finished with 11 each.
