HS BASKETBALL: Tug Valley falls to ND; BL nips P’burg

NAUGATUCK – Top-ranked Clarksburg Notre Dame took the lead early against Tug Valley and the Irish run past the Panthers, 74-43, in a game played Jan. 19.

Caleb May, Ian Reed and Ethan Colegrove led Tug Valley, now 5-7, with nine points each. East Davis chipped in eight.

WINCHESTER – Johnson Central struggled offensively in the opening half and George Rogers Clark pulled away for a 75-56 victory in the Tim Short Automotive Classic played at Campbell Junior Gymnasium Jan 19.

Jacob May tossed in 18 points and Isaiah May followed with 12 as the Golden Eagles dropped to 13-4. Cory VanHoose added nine.

PRESTONSBURG – Betsy Layne and Prestonsburg battled back and forth late before the Bobcats slipped past the Blackcats in a thriller, 52-46, at Prestonsburg Fieldhouse Jan. 19.

Jordan Frazier led the Bobcats, now 10-9, with 14 points and Nate Mims followed with 10. Brady Robinson chipped in eight.

Adam Slone fired in a game-high 20 points for the Blackcats, who fell to 8-10. Blake Slone tossed in 15 and Graham Burchett added eight.

Canaan Fletcher led the Pirates (6-12) with 11 points and May finished with nine.
