HS BASKETBALL: Potter, not once, twice, three times

Shelby Valley junior Cody Potter continues to post big numbers for the Wildcats.

Last week’s games included 34 points and 22 rebounds, 22 points and seven boards and 22 points and 18 rebounds. Those are good enough to earn him EKB Sports’ Player of the Week honors for the third time this season.

Potter edged out Phelps’ Trey Francis and Logan’s David Early. Francis scored 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in one game and 21 points and 20 boards in another. He also had games of 14 points twice for the Hornets. Early had games of 31 and 32 points for the Wildcats.

Here is this week’s honor roll:

Belfry’s McKenzie Maynard had a triple-double and double-double for the Lady Pirates with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 14 blocks and 19 points, 13 rebounds and eight blocks. She now has 116 blocks in her sophomore season.

Prestonsburg’s Caroline Ariaz had games of 23 points and 10 rebounds, 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Johnson Central’s Isaiah May scored 23 and 20 for the Golden Eagles and Jacob Rice added 21 and 19.

Chapmanville’s Obinna Anochili-Killen scored 24 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked seven shots in a Tigers’ win.

Betsy Layne’s Jordan Frazier scored 21 and 13 for the Bobcats.

Belfry’s Dezmon Roblee had games of 16, 20 and 12 for the Pirates.

Shelby Valley’s Alyssa Elswick scored 13, 15 and 16 for the Lady Kats.

East Ridge’s Haylee Meade had games of 13 and 14 for the Lady Warriors.

This week’s milestones:

Letcher Central’s Emma Grace Maggard went over 1,000 points for the Lady Cougars.

Floyd Central’s Ethan Smith-Mills reached 1,000 career points for the Jaguars.

Jenkins sisters, Jerrica and Kristen Thacker joined the 1,000-point club for the Lady Cavaliers.
