HS BASKETBALL:  Pikeville turns table on Valley in OT

PIKEVILLE – Pikeville rallied in the final eight minutes of regulation to tie Shelby Valley and the Panthers went on in overtime to earn a heart-stopping 65-62 victory in the second meeting in three days between the two 59th District powers at T.W. Oliver Memorial Gymnasium Jan. 22.

Kyle Watkins fired in 17 points, including 12 in the second half to lead the Panthers, now 12-7. Connor Roberts finished with 16 while Christian Billiter net 12 and Byron Hammonds added 10.

Cody Potter paced the Wildcats, who fell to 18-3, with 17 points. Cameron Worrix followed with 13 and Orbie McPeek tallied 12. Sam Stanley and Keian Worrix tossed in 10 apiece.

At Pikeville

PRESTONSBURG – Prestonsburg broke a fourth-quarter tie with Belfry and went on to score a 46-38 victory in a game played at Prestonsburg Fieldhouse Jan. 22.

Blake Slone led the Blackcats, now 9-10, with 14 points while Graham Burchett and Josh Hall tossed in 11 each.

Canaan Fletcher tossed in a game-high 15 points for the Pirates, who dropped to 6-14. Dezmon Roblee added seven.

LICK CREEK – East Ridge’s Dalton Wellman  poured in a game-high 28 points to lead the Warriors to a 74-64 victory over Pike County Central in a game played on the Reservation Jan. 22.

Cameron Hess added 18 and Eli Sykes fired in 14 as the Warriors improved to 7-11.

Pike Central’s Brady Adkins finished with 22 points as the Hawks dropped to 13-8. Devin Baker followed with 11 and Keegan Bentley net 10.
