HS BASKETBALL: Paintsville gets past PCC; SC wins

BUCKLEYS CREEK – Paintsville used a big start to the second half to take the lead away from Pike County Central to go on to post a 49-40 victory in a game played at the Hawks Nest Feb. 4.

The Lady Tigers, now 19-8, had only three players score as Anna Keeton led the way with a game-high 21 points. Elizabeth Williams tossed in 16 and Clara Blair tossed in 12.

Chloe Neece paced the Lady Hawks (17-7) with 11 points and Bailey Birchfield added 10. Central played without Cassidy Mullins who is expected to return Friday.

WARFIELD – Sheldon Clark held on down the stretch to score a 49-42 victory over Belfry in a game played at Martin County Middle School Gymnasium Feb. 4.

Madison Thompson finished with 23 points and 17 rebounds to help the Lady Cardinals move to 12-12. Lakyn Porter and Paige Maynard tossed in eight apiece.

Ariel Mounts paced the Lady Pirates, now 10-14, with 12 points while McKenzie Maynard and Lyndsey Miller finished with 11 each. Kyera Thornsbury chipped in eight.

INSTITUTE Chapmanville Regional saw an early lead slip away as Huntington High roared back to score a 65-46 victory in the Little General Shootout played at West Virginia State University Feb. 4.

Allie Williamson and Kaylee Blair paced the Lady Tigers, now 11-5, with 13 points apiece. Blair went over 1,000 points for her career.
