HS BASKETBALL: Lady Jaguars race past Lady Cards

WARFIELD – Floyd Central continued its solid play as the Lady Jaguars knocked off Sheldon Clark, 69-52, in a game played at Warfield Middle School Gymnasium Jan. 16.

Lauren Preston led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points and eight rebounds as Central improved to 16-1. Abby Maggard followed with 15 and Katie Moore finished with 11 points and eight boards. Grace Martin tossed in eight.

Madison Thompson fired in 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to finish with a double-double as the Lady Cardinals dropped to 8-10. Kristen Isaac tallied 14 points and pulled down nine boards wile Paige Maynard chipped in nine.

STANVILLE – Betsy Layne placed three players in double-figure scoring but the Lady Bobcats lost a heartbreaker to Magoffin County, 58-56, in a game played at Junior Newsome Arena Jan. 16.

Amelia Blackburn led the way with 19 points while Katie Kidd scored 11 and Alexandria Jarvis added 10. Kimberly Akers tossed in 9 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Lady Bobcats fell to 3-14.

Magoffin County is now 5-13.

WISE – Letcher Central fell behind early to Wise Central and the Lady Cougars dropped a 72-40 road game played Jan. 16.

Emma Maggard led the Lady Cougars, now 10-4, with 14 points.

PHELPS – Prestonsburg landed three players in double-figure scoring as the Lady  Blackcats turned away Phelps, 68-53, in a game played at Prestonsburg Fieldhouse Jan. 15.

Caroline Ariaz fired in 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds while Kaitlyn Keathley followed with 15 points and 10 boards to each finish with a double-double.

Alivia Slone tossed in 12 points as Prestonsburg improved to 12-7.

Phelps standout Danielle Prater poured in a game-high 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Lady Hornets dropped to 6-9. Chloe Smith chipped in eight.
