HS BASKETBALL: Lady Jags roll; Valley tops Belfry

LANGLEY – Floyd Central took charge early on and cruised to a 67-32 victory over Whitley County Feb. 9.

Lauren Preston, Kennedy Harvel and Katie Moore tossed in 12 points apiece as the  Lady Jaguars improved to 24-2. Abby Maggard chipped in seven.

GOODY – Shelby Valley held off Belfry in the second half to earn a 53-42 victory in a game played Feb. 9.

Alyssa Elswick finished with a game-high 18 points as the Lady Kats  moved to 15-13. Alyssa Newsom added 16.

Kylea Stanley paced the Lady Pirates (11-16) with 13 points while Kyera Thornsbury tossed in nine.

SALYERSVILLE – East Ridge fell behind and never recovered as Magoffin County knocked off the Warriors, 53-36, in a game played Feb. 9.

Sarah Tackett had 18 points as the Lady  Warriors dropped to 8-20. Haylee Meade finished with a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Kelsi Slone chipped in nine points.

PAINTSVILLE – Paintsville created a three-way tie in the 57th district with a thrilling 67-58 victory over Johnson Central.

Elizabeth “Swoop” Williams poured in 28 points and Anna Keeton added 22 as the Lady Tigers improved to 20-8. Clara Blair added eight points.

Ashley Belcher paced the Lady Eagles, now 13-13, with 18 points and Sammi Sites tossed in 10.

Ariel Mounts led the Lady Pirates, now 11-15, with 13 points while Kylea Stanley tossed in 12 and McKenzie Maynard tallied 11. Maynard  also had seven rebounds.

LANGLEY – Floyd Central ran out to a big halftime lead and never looked back in rolling past Prestonsburg, 62-33, in a 58th district clash.

Abby Maggard fired in 18 points and Lauren Preston added 10 as the Lady Jaguars improved to 23-2. Kaylee Moore chipped in nine.

Celina Mullins paced the Lady Blackcats (18-9) with 12 points. Alivia Slone chipped in seven.

JENKINS – Shelby Valley landed three players in double-figure scoring as the Lady Kats beat Jenkins, 54-37, on the road.

Alex Stanley and Alyssa Elswick each finished with a double-double as Valley moved to 14-13. Stanley scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Elswick totaled 14 points and pulled down 12 boards.

Kristen Whited also had 15 points in the win.

WARFIELD – Sheldon Clark moved its record above .500 as the Lady Cardinals turned back Phelps, 52-40, in a game played at Martin County Middle School Gymnasium.

Madison Thompson finished with a double-double, scoring 22 points and pulling down 14 rebounds as the Lady Cardinals moved to 13-12. Lakyn Porter followed with 11 points and McKenzie Preston tossed in eight.

BUCKLEYS CREEK – Piarist School fell behind to Riverside Christian and the Lady Knights came up on the short end, 58-44, in a game played at the Hawks Nest.

Kylie Tackett led the Lady Knights, now 3-13, with 16 points. Julie Collinsworth followed with 15 and Kennedy Bowen tossed in 12.

ERMINE – Letcher Central ran out to an early lead and cruised past Lee County, 52-29, in a game played at LCCHS Gymnasium.

Kaylee Banks led a balanced scoring attack for the Lady Cougars (14-7) with 13 points. Emma Maggard finished with 11 and  Mackenzie Craft tossed in 10.

Westside………59

MAN – Westside used a big second quarter to take the lead away from Man and go on to post a 59-35 victory in a game played at Man Memorial Fieldhouse.

Karissa Anderson led the Lady Billies, now 2-18, with 10 points. Allie Meade and Ci Mosley tossed in eight apiece.
