HS BASKETBALL: East Ridge tops Hurley; LCC rolls

HURLEY, Va. – East Ridge built a nine-point lead against Hurley (Va.) and held on in the second half for a 64-51 road win Jan. 28.

Dalton Wellman poured in 22 points for the Warriors, now 9-12. Cameron Hess and Eli Sykes chipped in eight apiece.

PAINTSVILLE – Johnson Central used a big second half to pull away and beat Sheldon Clark, 67-38, in a game played at Paul Setser Fieldhouse Jan. 28.

Isaiah May fired in a game-high 22 points to lead a trio of Golden Eagles, now 17-4, in double figures. Jacob Rice followed with 17 and Cory VanHoose tallied 11.

Trey James led the Cardinals (8-14) with 16 points. Jordan Dalton added six.

ERMINE – Letcher Central held on down the stretch to slip past Magoffin County, 56-52, in a game played at Cougar Gymnasium Jan. 29.

Tyler Boggs and Greg Kincer finished with 16 points apiece as the Cougars improved to 12-8.  Caleb Stidham chipped in nine.

Isaiah Sayler paced the Hornets (11-11) with 16 points to share game-high scoring honors. Mason Lovely followed with 11. Grayson Whitaker added eight.

PIKEVILLE – Pikeville secured the second seed in the 59th District with a 69-46 victory over East Ridge in a game played at T.W. Oliver Memorial Gymnasium.

Connor Roberts tossed in 13 points to lead three Panthers (14-7) in double-figure scoring. Christian Billiter followed with 11 and Zac Lockhart tossed in 10.

Dalton Wellman led the Warriors, now 8-12, with a game-high 18 points. Elijah Sykes finished with 15.

Seth Hall finished with a game-high 21 points for the Knights (0-17). Kyle Price finished with a double-double, scoring 14 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
