HS BASKETBALL: Chapmanville claims final weekly poll

The Chapmanville Tigers have been voted as the unanimous choice to cap off high school boys’ basketball season as the region’s No. 1 team in the final EKB Sports Weekly poll announced Tuesday.

The Tigers finished their season by winning a second straight Class AA championship, beating Fairmont Senior, 60-46, this past Saturday in Charleston. CRHS closed out 26-2 and has now won 45 straight games against in-state schools over the past two years.

Pikeville, which finished its season at 23-9 after falling in the 15th Region championship game, finished second. Shelby Valley, which saw its season end with the best overall record  in the region at 28-6, landed at No. 3.

Logan, which finished 20-5, with three of those losses coming to Chapmanville, tied with Johnson Central (27-8) for fourth place.

Paintsville (19-8) claimed the number six position, followed by Lawrence County (22-8) and Letcher Central, with a record of 18-13, in at No. 7.
