HS BASKETBALL: Central rolls past Phelps; P’burg wins

PHELPS – Pike Central took control early on against Phelps and the Lady Hawks cruised to a 60-32 victory in a game played at the McCoy Athletic Center Dec. 27.

Cassidy Mullins finished with 19 points to lead the Lady Hawks, now 8-5. Bailey Birchfield followed with 10 while Kelsi Brinager and Chloe Neece added nine apiece.

Danielle Prater poured in a game-high 22 points for the Lady Hornets, who fell to 5-5.

RACELAND – Raceland rallied in the final period to take the lead away from Shelby Valley to earn a 68-57 victory over the Lady Kats in the opening round of the Mr. Micro Computers Solutions Ohio River Classic played Dec. 27.

Alyssa Elswick paced the Lady Kats, now 6-7, with 18 points while Angel Newsome added 15.

RACELAND – Prestonsburg took the lead from Huntington High and held on to score a 72-67 win in the opening round of the Mr. Micro Computers Solutions Ohio River Classic played Dec. 27.

Kaitlyn Keathley poured in a game-high 24 points and Alivia Slone added 15 as the Lady Blackcats improved to 6-5. Caroline Ariaz tossed in 14.

BUCKLEYS CREEK – Undefeated Paintsville built a double-digit, halftime lead against Mingo Central and the Lady Tigers steamrolled to a 62-40 win in the first game of the Kentucky/West Virginia Border Clash played at the Hawks Nest Dec. 26.

Anna Keeton fired in a game-high 26 points as Paintsville moved to 10-0. Clara Blair tossed in 12 points and Elizabeth Williams added 11.

Savannah Hinton led the Lady Miners (1-7) with 21 points while Maliyah Martin chipped in eight.
