HS BASEBALL: Weekend roundup

WILLIAMSON – Mingo Central rallied from a four-run deficit to beat Phelps, 9-5, in the Mingo Central Wood Bat Classic played at historic Jim VanZant Field April 13.

Ashton Davis had three hits and drove in a pair of runs as the Miners moved to 6-12. Levi Davis knocked home three runs and Lance Lester had a pair of hits.

Riley Dotson had to hits for the Hornets, who fell to 7-8. Cainan Land drove in one run.

Chase Justice was the winning pitcher while Garrett Clevinger took the loss.

Winning pitcher Seth Williams belted a home run and scored two runs as the Tigers improved to 12-7. Zach Thompson doubled in one run and Matt Baldwin had a single and batted in a pair.

Winning pitcher Blake Delong had a big day at the plate, belting a home run and driving in three runs. He added a pair of singles. Chayse Meade singled twice, scored two runs and batted in one while Conner Lemaster singled in two runs.

Ryley Preece had another solid game with two hits, including a triple, and he scored twice as the Golden Eagles moved to 15-1.

Losing pitcher Matt Baldwin blasted a home run and drove in two runs as the Tigers dropped to 11-7. Ryan Gibson had a pair of hits and knocked in two while Seth Williams singled and scored.

Ryley Preece had three hits, including a home run, scored three times and knocked in four runs as the Golden Eagles moved to 14-1. Ryan Sartin added two hits, one a dinger, scored twice and batted in a pair of runs.

Chayse Meade tripled, doubled and knocked in two runs to aid winning pitcher Josh Slone. Wesley May collected two hits, one a double, scored three runs and drove in two other runs.

Jon Fitch added two singles, scored three runs and added an RBI to pack the pitching of winner Dylan Fitch.
