BOWLING GREEN – For at least the next year, UPIKE can claim it’s the only JV champion in Mid-South Conference history. The Bears won two games in two days to claim the first-ever MSC JV Women’s Conference Championship.
UPIKE defeated Campbellsville on Saturday, 85-69, in the finals to claim the championship. The Bears exemplified true teamwork in the title game with six players reaching double figures in the win.
Mary Englert led Pikeville with 18 points, 11 of which came in the first quarter. Sierra Feltner and Jillian Duncan each added 14 points. UPIKE was on fire from long-distance in the championship game, making 13 three-pointers.
Pikeville was given a first-round bye and faced the winner of the first-round matchup between Cumberlands (Ky.) and Campbellsville-Harrodsburg. The Bears lit the nets on fire in its first game, defeating Campbellsville-Harrodsburg, 99-84.
