HIGH SCHOOL: Paintsville excels on court, classroom

Coach Dawn Kinner’s Paintsville Lady Tigers volleyball team has been honored by the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association (KVCA) for their outstanding work in the classroom.

The Lady Tigers received the 2019 KVCA Team Academic Award.

Through a signature affiliate partnership with the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), Paintsville, along with 16 other schools, were able to maintain academic excellence for the entire 2018-19 school year.

To qualify, the Lady Tigers and others had to maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

Nominations for the award took place throughout June and were accepted by the AVCA.

Other schools honored were Breathitt County (Coach Stephen Bowling), Bryan Station (Coach Hilary McKenzie), Caldwell County (Coach Daniel Cortner), Cooper High (Coach Michelle Isaac), Covington Latin School (Coach Darlene Bossert), Danville Christian Academy (Coach Jeannie Hurst), Fulton City High School (Coach Chad Malray), Henry Clay (Coach  Dale Grupe);

Leslie County High (Coach Lisa Wilson), Lexington Christian Academy (Coach Kirby Willoughby), Louisville Valley (Coach Charles Scott), Notre Dame Academy (Coach Molly McDermott), Ryle High (Coach Tasha Tanner-Lovins), Sacred Heart Academy (Coach Brett Versen), Scott County (Coach Adam Ivetic) and Scott High (Coach Andrea Sullivan).
