WILLIAMSON – No feudin’, just runnin’.
The 20th annual Hatfield-McCoy marathon races return to the Tug Valley region this weekend.
Nearly 1,000 runners from across the country and several foreign lands will be on hand to participate in the races, according to Tug Valley Road Runners Club President and Race Organizer Alexis Batausa.
Batausa, who took the role over from race founder David Hatfield, said its one of the most unique races in the country.
He added the annual June races are a financial boost to businesses throughout the region. Vendors will be on hand throughout the day.
Hundreds volunteer each year to help make the races a huge success, including fire departments, law enforcement, businesses and civic groups.
The full marathon will begin in the South Williamson Food City parking lot, make its way to Matewan and back to Williamson, including a trek up and down Blackberry Mountain. Race begins at 7 a.m. Saturday.
Two half marathons will be run, each starting in Matewan and Williamson and ending in the opposite town.
