Golden Eagles pull away, beat Pirates

PAINTSVILLE – Johnson Central took control early on against Belfry and the Golden Eagles went on to down the Pirates, 34-21, at rain-soaked Eagle Field this past Friday night.

The Golden Eagles, now 9-1, were led by running back Joe Jackson, who rushed 11 times for 143 yards and three touchdowns, including two in the opening half. Bryce Tackett added 87 yards and a score.

Belfry running back Isaac Dixon carried 20 times for 124 yards while Kyle Webb had 25 rushes for 111 yards and a touchdown.

Both teams will begin post-season play Friday night as the Pirates, now 8-2, will welcome Garrard County (2-8) to CAM Stadium for a Class 3A kickoff set for 7 p.m.. while the Golden Eagles tackle Bourbon County (3-7) in a Class 4A kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
