Goad’s late magic earns QB Player of the Week honors

The top three nominees for EKB Sports’ Player of the Week honors combined for nearly 1,000 yards in total offense and 15 touchdowns.

Mingo Central quarterback Daylin Goad snatched the honor away from Shelby Valley running back Seth Johnson and Lawrence County quarterback Noah West.

Goad passed for 326 yards and six touchdowns, including the game-winning score with 39 seconds left to lift the Miners to a 39-36 win over Sissonville.

Johnson dominated with 14 carries for 380 yards and four touchdowns as the Wildcats rolled past Morgan County, 61-21.

West was unstoppable as well, rushing 29 times for 292 yards and five touchdowns in the Bulldogs’ rout of Greenup County.

Here are other top nominees from this past weekend:

Pikeville running back Zack Roberts rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns in the Panthers loss to Belfry.

Floyd Central running back Josh Whitaker rushed 18 times for 143 yards and four touchdowns in the Jaguars’ big win over Prestonsburg.

Belfry running back Isaac Dixon rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns in the Pirates big win over Pikeville.

Logan quarterback Chucky Felder carried 21 times for 171 yards and a pair of touchdowns and passed for 161 yards and two scores in a loss to Poca.

Johnson Central running back Devin Johnson finished with 103 yards and three touchdowns in the Golden Eagles win over previously unbeaten Moore.

Mingo Central receiver Drew Hatfield had 12 catches for 162 yards and two scores.

Pikeville quarterback Connor Roberts rushed for 119 yards and one touchdown and passed for 135 yards in the loss to Belfry.
