Johnson Central held on to its No. 1 ranking in the latest EKBS Sports’ Super 7 football poll released Monday night.
The Golden Eagles defeated South Charleston, W.Va., this past Friday night at home to improve to 2-1.
Belfry stood firm at No. 2 after the Pirates cruised to a big home win over Newport Central Catholic. It was Belfry’s 100th win in 113 games at CAM Stadium under legendary head coach Philip Haywood.
There was no change at No. 3 as Pikeville held firm following an impressive home win over rival Paintsville. That sets up this Friday night’s clash at Hillard Howard Field between the Pirates and Panthers.
Mingo Central is fourth following the Miners big home win over neighboring Logan while Shelby Valley rounds out the top five at No. 5.
Paintsville tumbles to No. 6 after its second straight loss while Phelps moves into the rankings for the first time all season long. The Hornets are 3-0.
