East Ridge edges Betsy Layne in overtime thriller

LICK CREEK – East Ridge’s Kane Taylor scored three touchdowns, and ran in the game-winning, two-point conversion overtime as the Warriors slipped past Betsy Layne, 32-30, in a game played at the Reservation this past Friday night.

Chase Caudill scored on fourth-down and six in overtime to set up Taylor’s big run.

Taylor finished with 15 carries and 163 yards as the Warriors won for the first time under interim coach Ben Runyon and moved to 2-4 overall. Jacob Robinson added 72 yards and one score on three carries while Chase Caudill added a short touchdown run.

Cameron Hess finished with 13 tackles and Caudill added 2. Both had eight solo tackles each.

The Warriors travel to Twin Valley, Va. (3-3) and. Betsy Layne, now 0-6, will host Leslie County (2-4) Friday night. Both games are set for 7:30 p.m.

GRAYSON – Johnson Central took the lead early on against East Carter and cruised to a 53-14 win this past Friday night.

Running back Joe Jackson carried 10 times for 136 yards and two scores as the Golden Eagles won for the fifth straight week. He also hauled in a touchdown pass of 15 yards.

Devin Johnson added 63 yards and a touchdown on four rushes. Quarterback Ryley Preece rushed for a 12-yard touchdown and passed for 65 yards and another score and caught a TD pass. Backup quarterback Grant Rice tossed a 21-yard touchdown pass.

The Golden Eagles will host Greenup County (5-2) Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

HYDEN – Leslie County running back Taten Smith rushed for 214 yards and four touchdowns on 28 carries to lead the Eagles to a 30-14 win over Prestonsburg in a game this past Friday night.

Garrison Yates and Kaleb Jarvis scored a touchdown each for the Blackcats, now 0-6.

Running back Ethan Varney led the ground attack with 80 yards and 14 rushing attempts. Ezekiel Briggs finished with 61 yards on six rushes.

The Blackcats will host Shelby Valley (5-1) at Josh Francis Field Thursday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

HAZARD – Pike Central quarterback Tyler Hunt rushed for 125 yards and one touchdown and passed for 85 yards and another, but the Hawks came up on the short end of a 42-35 shootout at Perry County Central this past Friday night.

Running back Isaiah Hess rushed for 63 yards and one touchdown. He also returned an interception 27 yards to pay dirt. Running back Issac Thacker totaled 45 yards and one score on 11 carries.

Receiver Cameron McCombs hauled in an eight-yard touchdown pass.

Nate Roberts led the defense with 17 tackles, including nine solo. Issac Hunt and Tanner Hunt finished with 10 each.

Pike Central (2-4) will journey to Lawrence County (4-3) Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
