COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Bears turn back Knights in shootout

University of Pikeville running back Derius Gibson scored on a 24-yard run with 1 minute, 15 seconds remaining to help push the Bears to a 49-38 victory over Kentucky Christian University at Hambley Athletic Complex on Saturday night.

The Bears, now 2-2, held a slim four-point advantage before Gibson’s late run. He finished with 125 yards on the ground.

Alexander Shelton rushed for a pair of short touchdowns and hauled in a 35-yard pass from Bowen Smith for a third. Smith also hit Arties Clark with a TD pass.

UPIKE is idle this coming weekend before hosting Cumberlands (2-0) in the divisional opener and final game of the home-stand on Oct. 5. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
