The University of Pikeville built a 21-point, halftime lead against Bluefield (Va.) College and the Bears went on to score an impressive 48-6 victory over the Rams in the home opener played at the W.C. Hambley Athletic Complex on Saturday.
Three UPIKE quarterbacks combined for 298 yards through the air and a pair of touchdowns, both thrown by Bowen Smith. He passed for 132 yards while Trevon Wofford finished with 152 yards and Xavier Malone had 14 yards.
Running back Xondre Willis carried 17 times for 123 yards and two touchdowns as the Bears won for the first time in three games.
Receiver Alexander Shelton hauled in four passes for 109 yards and a touchdown. He also had two one-yard rushing scores.
The Bears will host Kentucky Christian University (2-1) on Sept. 21. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
