Cats cruise past Warriors; mourn late teammate’s passing

ROBINSON CREEK – Shelby Valley quarterback Sam Stanley threw for 134 yards and three touchdowns and running back Seth Johnson ran for 214 yards and four touchdowns on just 10 carries to power the Wildcats to a 61-0 win over East Ridge at Teco Field Friday night.

It was an emotional game of the Wildcats who had learned just prior to kickoff of the passing of former teammate Lamont Wright who died in a tragic motorcycle accident.

Shelby Valley, now 8-1, rushed for more than 400 yards and finished with 540 yards total.

Two of Stanley’s three TD passes went to Cameron Worrix for 24 and 15 yards. Dalton Meade had a 28-yard touchdown reception.

Running back Jesse Wright capped the scoring with an 80-yard run late in the final quarter.

Both teams will return to action next Friday night as East Ridge, now 2-7, will close out its season at home against Knott County Central (1-8) wile the Wildcats host Boyd County (2-7).

Kickoff for both is set for 7:30 p.m.
