NEWTOWN – It was clear early on the Burch Bulldogs were on a mission to finish off their 2018 season with nothing less than a county championship.
Chaz Waine picked off a Kaeden Bolding pass and returned it 48 yards for a touchdown to ignite a dominating 44-6 victory over the Matewan Tigers at “Buck” Harless Stadium Thursday night.
The Bulldogs finished 8-0 while the Tigers season ended at 5-2, with both losses coming to Burch.
Quarterback Dane Hatfield ran 43 and 16 yards for a pair of touchdowns while rushing for 90 yards.
Kean Maynard, Malaki Sheppard and Ryan Conley added rushing scores for the Bulldogs. Maynard was the game’s leading rusher with 128 yards.
Matewan’s only points came when Bolding tossed a 39-yard scoring pass to Deuce Prater. Bolding rushed for 102 yards and passed for 71 in the loss.
