Mountain Top Media and EKB Sports is sad to report that Sheldon Clark girls basketball coach Tim Rice was killed in an automobile accident earlier today along new Route 3 near the Johnson and Martin County lines.
Coach Rice, a resident of Betsy Layne, was 59.
According to a statement, when Kentucky State Police troopers arrived on the scene shortly before 8 a.m., they discovered a passenger vehicle had rear-ended a commercial vehicle on the roadway.
Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected as a factor at this time, but toxicology reports are pending.
