Big second half lifts Bears past Livingstone

PIKEVILLE – The University of Pikeville scored 28 unanswered points in the second half and steamrolled to a 52-23 win over Livingstone College Thursday night at the Hambley Athletic Complex.

The Bears, now 1-1, trailed 17-14 when quarterback Trevon Wofford came off the bench and tossed an eight-yard touchdown pass to Anfernee Brown with just over seven minutes left to put UPIKE ahead for good.

Wofford rushed eight times in the game for 168 yards to lead the ground attack. He passed for 39 yards, completing three of four passes. Arites Clark hauled in five catches for 113 yards, including the game’s first score on a 31-yard pass play from quarterback Bowen Smith.

Smith finished seven of 15 passing for 114 yards and two touchdowns. His second was a three-yard toss to Jordan Owens to help the Bears gain a 14-10 halftime advantage.

UPIKE returns to action Thursday night when Bethel visits for the third straight Thursday home matchup. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
