Belfry sophomore McKenzie Maynard is a “one-girl” wrecking crew on the high school basketball court.
She is on pace to finish her career with more than 600 blocked shots.
Maynard had games of 21 points, 12 rebounds and 14 block shots; and 16 points, 11 boards and eight blocks for the Lady Pirates in games this past week.
Her efforts have earned her EKB Sports’ Player of the Week. She becomes the first female to capture the award this season.
Here is this week’s honor roll:
Lawrence County’s Tyler Maynard had games of 30 points and 10 rebounds and 16 points and 10 boards for the Bulldogs.
Floyd Central’s Katie Jo Moore had three double-doubles as the Lady Jaguars improved to 15-0 while winning the 15th Region 2-A Classic. She had 13 points and 14 rebounds; 10 points and 10 rebounds; and 14 points and 12 boards.
Shelby Valley’s Cody Potter had a pair of double-doubles, scoring 18 points and pulling down 12 rebounds while netting 23 points and 11 rebounds in another win.
Magoffin County’s Brady Whitaker had a career-high 47 points in the Hornets win over Belfry.
Sheldon Clark’s Madison Thompson scored 30 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in one game and had 17 points and a career-high 26 boards in another.
East Ridge’s Eli Sykes had games of 23 and 13 for the Warriors against Pikeville and Jenkins.
Pikeville’s Connor Roberts tossed in 29 and 19 for the Panthers.
Pike Central’s Cassidy Mullins scored 15 points and 25 during the Lady Hawks play in the 2-A Classic.
Prestonsburg’s Kaitlyn Keathley scored 26 points and 13 for the Lady Blackcats.
Paintsville’s Seth Williams poured in 27 points to power the Tigers to a huge win over Johnson Central.
