Belfry boys, girls roll at Valley

Belfry built a five-goal halftime lead against Shelby Valley and the Pirates cruised to a 9-0 win at Teco Field on Tuesday night.

Christian Long, Blake Kulik, Jacob Blackburn, Ian Stallard, Dalton Stacy, Dennis Freeman, Logan Maynard, Jasper McCoy and Niles McCoy all scored one goal apiece as Belfry moved to 1-1-0 on the season.

John Newsome had the only goal for the Wildcats, who dropped to 0-3-0.

Belfry had 29 shots on goal while Valley managed just eight. Valley goalkeeper Matt Ray finished with eight saves. Belfry’s Caleb Spears finished with six.

In the only other boys’ match, Johnson Central edged Paintsville, 2-1.

Jake Headley had a pair of goals for the Golden Eagles, now 2-2-0. Payton Sargent had an assist while goalkeeper Travis Caudill had 12 saves.

The Tigers fell to 0-3-0.

No matches are scheduled for tonight.

In girls’ action, Johnson Central’s Alyssa Pack recorded her fourth straight shutout in goal as the Lady Eagles defeated cross-town foe Paintsville, 8-0, in a match played at Eagle Field.

Lauren Johnson finished with five goals as Johnson Central improved to 4-0-0. Haley Lykins, Lexi Scarberry and Cleo Wells scored one apiece.

Sheldon Clark opened its season with a 3-1 win over Pikeville in a match at The Rock.

Kaitlyn Gauze had two goals and one assist while Julia Pinson added one goal.

Pikeville’s only goal came from Emma Johns off an assist by Sydney Williamson in the opener for the Lady Panthers.

Meanwhile, Belfry’s Robbi-Ann Brewer knocked home three goals to lead the Lady Pirates to a 5-0 win over Shelby Valley at Teco Field.

Marki Maynard added two as Belfry won for the first time in three matches.

The Lady Pirates took 27 shots on goal as Valley goalkeeper Angel Newsome had 20 stops.

Valley fell to 1-3-0.
