PIKEVILLE – Lakia Bailey, coordinator of graphic services and events at the University of Pikeville since 2012, has accepted a position to move to the athletic department at the school as the assistant sports information director and athletic assistant, Director of Athletics Kelly Wells announced on Friday.
Bailey is an alum of UPIKE and played on the women’s basketball team from 2007-2011. Her talents in graphic design are hard to miss around the Pikeville campus as she is highly sought after to provide marketing materials, posters, brochures and so much more, while also playing a pivotal role in the planning of special events that happen throughout the year.
“Lakia will be a tremendous addition to our staff as we look to increase our exposure in the community and beyond,” said Wells. “Her role will be wide ranging, but at the core she will be a great asset to our coaches and staff to help spread the message of what we are trying to accomplish through athletics. Any anytime you can bring someone on who played here and knows our mission, that is an obvious plus.”
In addition to marketing roles, Bailey will also assume duties in the sports information department, assisting with statistics, photography, live streaming, social media and coming up with new digital content.
“I’m excited for Lakia in this new role,” said Asst. Athletic Director and Sports Information Director Dan White. “Personally, she will allow me to put more focus on our student-athletes and making sure they and their families have the best experience as a college athlete. For the department, she will increase the reach we have on campus simply based on her years in public relations where she has built great relationships. I think this is a win-win for both sides as she gets to do something she’s passionate about while also brining more exposure to our school and athletic department.”
