Annual Bulldog 5K/1-Mile Walk set for Aug. 31

The memory of longtime Burch High School girls’ basketball coach Bill Smith will be in the spotlight when the seventh-annual memorial  Bulldog 5K Run and 1-Mile Walk take place on Saturday, Aug. 31.

The race, hosted by the Tug Valley Road Runners  Club, will be held during Delbarton’s homecoming festivities downtown.

This is the first leg of the club’s three-race series. Runners will leave the starting line at 8 a.m. Others are the Coal Dust Run (Sept. 14) and  Frank O’Brien Memorial 8K/2-Mile Walk (Sept. 21).

Registration will be held race day from 6 until 7:45 a.m. The cost is $25 for the 5K and $20 for the 1-Mile Walk. Pre-registration for the 5K race is $20. An additional $5 off for children 14 and under.

Participants will receive a T-shirt, finisher medal and age awards.

Those wishing to run can register at the Coal House in downtown Williamson and at Chafin Funeral Home in Delbarton.

Online registration is open until noon on Aug. 30.
