UPIKE BASKETBALL: USA pulls away to beat Bears

The University of Pikeville men’s basketball team hung around early on before South Alabama used a  17-4 run to close out the first half and then pulled away in the second for an 82-51 win over the Bears in an exhibition game on Wednesday night in Mobile.

Luke Layhew led UPIKE with 16 points and Jordan Perry followed with 11. The Bears hit just 19 of 59 shots from the floor, including only two of 13 from three-point range.

South Alabama head coach Richie Riley was an assistant coach under UPIKE head coach Kelly Wells at UPIKE. The Bears will return home on Sunday to face Ohio-Eastern. Tipoff at the Arena is 2 p.m.
