Johnson Central’s high-octane ground attack was an unstoppable force as the Golden Eagles amassed 447 yards en route to a 53-16 win over the Pirates at CAM Stadium on Friday night.
Running back Devin Johnson ran 17 times for 166 yards and one touchdown. He hauled in a 49-yard TD pass as well. Cody Rice finished with 133 yards on 11 rushes. Rice scored the game’s first touchdown on a 63-yard gallop.
Quarterback Ryley Preece added 44 yards rushing and two scores while passing for 51 yards and one score.
Running back Bryce Tackett and Reese Goss added rushing touchdowns.
The Pirates, now 6-3, were held to just 171 yards on the ground. Running back Ben Bentley had 82 yards and 10 rushes and scored one rushing touchdown and hauled in a seven-yard scoring pass.
Both teams will begin post-season play this coming weekend as the Pirates will host Floyd Central (3-7) on Thursday while the Golden Eagles welcome Letcher Central (4-6) to Eagle Field Friday night. Belfry and Floyd Central kick at 7 p.m., while JC and LCC will kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
