UPIKE BASKETBALL: Bears use late run to bounce Rams

The University of Pikeville men’s basketball team closed the game on a 21-3 run to break away for a 76-56 win over the Bluefield (Va.) College Rams at Appalachian Wireless Arena on Wednesday night.

Da’Rell Domineck came off the bench to finish with 18 points to help pushed UPIKE to 3-0 on the season. Xaviar Gaona followed with 15. Luke Layhew tossed in 11 and Jordan Perry chipped in 10.

UPIKE made good on 28 of 62 shots from the floor, including only three of 17 from three-point range. The Bears hit 17-of 28 free throws.

The Bears return to the hardwood this weekend, hosting the Appalachian Wireless Classic at the Arena. UPIKE will take on Miami-Hamilton at 8 p.m. on Friday night and then battle Bethel at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
