Belfry snapped a 14-all tie with Pike County Central and the Pirates went on to cruise to a 55-14 win in the district championship match-up played at the Hawks Nest on Friday night.
The Pirates, now 6-2, beat the Hawks (7-2) for the 28th consecutive time in the series.
Running back Peyton Hensley led the way with 122 yards and three rushing touchdowns on 15 carries. Isaac Dixon added 85 yards and two touchdowns, including one rushing and one through the air. Ben Bentley added 75 yards on eight rushing attempts and one score.
Central running back Matt Anderson, who left the game with an injury, carried three times for 72 yards and quarterback Tyler Hunt added 48 yards on 10 rushes, including a 55-yard touchdown run on the game’s first play. He also tossed a short touchdown pass.
Belfry will close out the regular season at home against unbeaten Johnson Central (9-0) while the Hawks journey to Jackson for a battle with unbeaten Breathitt County (9-0) on Nov. 1. Both kickoffs are set for 7:30 p.m.
