Mike Crosby’s love for the game of baseball started at a very young age.
From is first mentor and father, Tommy, to his career-shorten professional career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, he has embraced the ups and downs like no other.
Crosby, who currently serves as Man High School’s head coach, will be honored this coming Saturday when he will be inducted into the Garrett College (MD) Hall of Fame.
He said it was one of the happiest moments of his life when learning he was among the inductees.
Crosby, the former Lakers’ catcher, was one of the program’s top performers during his playing days from 1992-94. He attended a tryout camp just outside Pittsburgh when a Pirate scout was impressed enough to lead to a minor-league contract and invite to spring training in 1995.
His pro career was cut short following a broken leg in a game against the Baltimore Orioles in 1995. The New York Mets offered him a contract the following year, but a string of injuries ended his life-long dream.
He said Garrett College will always be special. It was a launching pad to his success in life.
“The one-on-one time I had with my professors, my coaches, and administrators was so valuable to me,” he said.
The MHS alum has come full circle. He is back coaching where he grew up as a young boy. He begins his fourth season this coming spring with the Hillbillies.
