Mingo Central quarterback Daylin Goad has his name at the top of statistical leaders among West Virginia high school players.
He passed for 204 yards and three touchdowns and ran for three scores in the Miners’ big road win over Scott this past Friday night. He has now thrown for 1,859 yards and 19 touchdown passes.
His effort has earned him Mountain Top Sports/Buffalo Wild Wings Player of the Week honors.
He edged out teammate Drew Hatfield who hauled in 11 passes for 151 yards and three scores, moving him into second place all-time among West Virginia high school receivers. He now has 1,230 yards and 16 touchdowns, all of which are first statewide.
Other top performer this week included:
Tug Valley quarterback Ethan Varney passed for five touchdowns and finished with 203 yards through the air and 90 rushing in the Panthers big road win at Mount View. Running back Zack Savage added 112 yards rushing on 21 carries and a touchdown.
Johnson Central running back Devin Johnson, who ran six times for 159 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Teammate Ryley Preece added three passing and three rushing touchdowns in the win over Harlan County.
Shelby Valley’s Dalton Meade ran for 112 yards and two touchdowns on six carries and returned an interception for a score in the Wildcats win over East Ridge.
Pike Central quarterback Tyler Hunt passed for three touchdowns and running back Matt Anderson ran for 147 yards and one score in the Hawks win over Magoffin County.
Pikeville’s defensive unit shutout Hazard for the first time in the regular season since 1955 in a 42-0 victory. Running back Jon Collum rushed for a pair of touchdowns in the win.
Belfry running back Peyton Hensley ran for 153 yards and two scores on 11 carries and Isaac Dixon added 105 yards and returned the second half kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown in the Pirates lopsided win over Lawrence County.
Phelps running back Dominick Francis and Tyrell Hollis ran for 387 yards and five touchdowns in the Hornets big win over Sayre. Francis had 237 yards and three scores while Hollis finished with 150 yards and two touchdowns.
