HS FOOTBALL: Panthers steamroll to district title

Nobody saw this coming.

Pikeville built a 29-point, halftime lead against Hazard and the Panthers went on to shutout and win the district championship over the Bulldogs, 42-0, at Daniel Field on Friday night.

The Panthers, now 8-0, had not recorded a regular-season shutout against Hazard since the 1955 season. They blanked the Bulldogs in a 2002 playoff matchup.

Quarterback Isaac McNamee passed for 112 yards and a third-quarter touchdown to Jackson Hensley, prompting a running clock.

Clay Tinsley opened the scoring with a 61-yard run early in the opening period.

Cody Raines had an eight-yard TD run and Jon Collum had runs of 16 and nine yards to build the halftime margin.

Carson Wright capped the scoring with a nine-yard run early in the final quarter

Pikeville will earn a forfeit win over Jenkins next week before closing out the regular season against Ridgeview (Va.) on Nov. 1.
