It’s not very often a local high school football team gets the chance to play or coach against a team led by a former National Football League and Marshall University Hall of Fame quarterback.
Coach Andrew West and his Phelps Hornets did just that at Kentucky Christian University as Chad Pennington brought his Spartans from Lexington.
Phelps running back Dominick Francis and Tyrell Holllis combined for 387 yards and five touchdowns on 35 carries as the Hornets rolled to a 41-13 victory on Friday night.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Phelps and helped the Hornets move to 3-4.
Francis ran for 237 yards on 21 carries and scored three touchdowns while Hollis added 150 yards and two scored on 14 rushes.
Running back Seth Mayhorn followed with 77 yards on nine carries as Phelps ran for 470 yards as a team.
Cainan Land picked off a pass and returned it 42 yards for a touchdown and Christian Land also had a pick. Cainan Land had eight tackles. Landon Dotson led the defense with nine tackles
Phelps will play at Hazard (5-3) on Oct. 25. Kickoff from Daniel Field is set for 7:30 p.m.
